Ashmolean Museum, Oxford 12 Sep 2020-Feb 2021 This online exhibition is part of the Ashmolean's Museum from Home series. It focuses on 18th and 19th century textiles from the Mediterranean in the Ashmolean's collection. Many of these were collected by noted early 20th c British archaeologist John Linton Myres, who spent time travelling and excavating in Greece and Cyprus. See the exhibition here. Leighton House Museum 12 Holland Park Road London Victorian artist Lawrence Alma-Tadema produced many works that illustrated life in the Classical world. The exhibition will take visitors through Alma-Tadema's life and work, and the influence that his art continues to have on our perception of the classical world today. The exhibition features photographs of 14 scholars-of-today portraying 14 scholars-of-yesterday - all women active in archaeology, geology and palaeontology. Tues-Sun 10am -5 pm until 14 May 2017 Bristol Museum & Art Gallery Queen's Road, Bristol BS8 1RL British artist Adela Breton travelled to Mexico to record Mayan antiquities in the early 20th century. Toward the end of her life she donated her work to the Bristol Museum, where a selection are now on display. Admission to the exhibition is free. Further details can be found HERE. Bushey Museum & Art Gallery Council Chamber, Bushey, London The artist Myrtle Broome studied Egyptology at University College London just before the First World War, and subsequently worked as an artist for Egypt Exploration Society at Abydos, Egypt. The Bushey Museum is currently holding an exhibition of works by Broome and another artist, Hilda Gordon. Both women travelled extensively abroad, and their paintings reflect their experiences overseas. |
